Pectoral augmentation can be the solution for men who are looking to achieve the look of a defined strong chest. Pectoral implants were first used for reconstruction in men following surgery, but can now be used to create the strong look that you have been looking for. Men can work with their doctor to choose silicone implants that will give them a sculpted look they want.

The Process

The actual surgery is undertaken under general anesthesia, meaning that the patient won’t be awake and won’t remember any of the surgery. An incision is made in the tissue near the pectoralis muscle. Typically, that incision is placed in an area that isn’t seen unless you know where to look. A pocket is then created beneath the pectoralis muscle, and a silicone implant is placed in the pocket. The area is then sutured using techniques that will help to minimize scarring. Over time, the pocket will heal, and scar tissue will form internally. The scar tissue then holds the implant in place.

Candidates

Pectoral augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that is typically designed for men who couldn’t achieve their desired results through exercise regimens. This procedure is perfect for people who:

  • Want a more muscular chest
  • Feel self-conscious about the current appearance of your chest
  • Want to feel more masculine and confident
  • Can’t get results from working out

In addition, your surgeon will also want to make sure that you are in good overall health. Proper healing and recovery can vary between patients, but those who are already healthy recover more quickly and with fewer issues. Current smokers should also quit or discuss options with their doctor before surgery and understand how smoking can affect recovery.

Recovery

Once the procedure has been completed, you will be held for a short time to make sure that there are no immediate issues regarding the surgery or the anesthesia. Somebody must drive you home following your release. When you leave the surgical center, your chest will be bandaged or placed in a compression garment.

Generally, some minor discomfort or soreness, swelling, and bruising of the chest occur. The bruising has usually cleared up after 1-3 weeks, and mild swelling can persist for slightly longer.

Patients are generally able to be on their feet and moving around the same day as the surgery, but they should take special care to prioritize rest and refrain from lifting or exercise until cleared by your doctor. Patients can typically return to work after about a week, depending on their responsibilities and nature of work.

Many patients experience some changes in sensation of the pectoralis muscles for around six months, up to two years. Scars also typically begin to fade and after two years are usually almost impossible to identify.

Cost of Procedure

Most insurance doesn’t cover the cost of elective cosmetic surgeries. However, if your surgery is the result of a reconstruction or other health-related issues, it may qualify for coverage. If you are unsure, carefully read your policy and call your insurance provider to make sure.
If you have to pay out of pocket for the surgery, the costs can vary widely, but generally, fall between 10 and 40k dollars. However, when you work with our offices, we can develop a targeted and specific plan and ensure that you know what the total cost will be before you undergo surgery.
