MOMMY MAKEOVER

Having a baby takes a considerable toll on your body, as it undergoes some truly incredible changes so that you can successfully carry and deliver an infant. As well as the inevitable stretching and growing of your stomach to incubate your unborn child, your breasts also increase in size, ready to feed him or her once born. Weight gain is completely natural, and many women find that their hips, butt and even thighs also get larger while they are carrying their child.

Unfortunately, for most new moms, these changes don’t disappear overnight when you have a baby. While at first, your body will undoubtedly be far from your biggest priority, as time progresses you may well become frustrated with issues such as excess weight, stretched and sagging skin, stretchmarks and deflated breasts. Diet and exercise may help improve some parts of your body, but it is uncommon for a woman to be able to obtain their pre-pregnancy body entirely.

If you are unhappy with the way your body looks after childbirth and nursing, you will probably find it has a negative effect on your confidence and self-esteem. Some ladies feel unattractive and will only become intimate with their partner with the lights off. Others suffer from social anxiety or revert to shapeless clothing to hide the parts of their body that they feel need addressing. Some studies suggest that postpartum depression is more common amongst women who haven’t been able to regain their pre-pregnancy shape.

Pregnancy is unique in the amount of localized weight gain, both in the abdomen and the breasts. This can stretch the muscles and skin to a degree they cannot tighten back down to their former degree of tautness afterwards. The breast can also have sagging and volume loss, due to both the size increase and breastfeeding. Plus, the weight gain of pregnancy, despite the fact that you’ve lost the weight, usually tends to leave a few pockets of unwanted fat in the abdomen, flanks, bra fat, and upper thighs.

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be this way thanks to the creation of the Mommy Makeover.

The tummy tuck will tighten your sagging abdomen and it will reposition separated stomach muscles, slimming your waist. The breast lift will return your breasts to their former, higher position on your chest and will remove sagging skin. Breast augmentation can replace lost volume. Finally, liposuction will remove those pockets of stubborn fat.

What is the advantage of combining the procedures into a single surgical session?

Cosmetic surgery procedures have long been used by women to address certain aspects of their appearance, included the areas of their body affected by childbirth. However, rather than undergoing a range of separate surgeries to restore your appearance, it is now possible to combine a number of cosmetic procedures into one planned surgery – and more importantly for busy moms, one recovery period.

Mommy makeovers with Dr. Albert combine three procedures into a single surgery. But The goal is to address the changes that occur in a woman’s body with pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. By combining the tummy tuck, breast lift, and liposuction into a single surgery, you do have a more involved recovery, but it’s only one recovery. It’s nice to get your old body back (and maybe then some) and do everything at once. Plus, by combining surgeries, this lowers the costs involved.

Can I have a mommy makeover if I didn’t have children?

The term “mommy makeover” is just a title, not a requirement. Weight gain and subsequent loss, hormonal changes, and aging can create many of the same issues with loose sagging skin and flattened drooping breasts that having children does. If you feel the combination of a tummy tuck, breast lift (with or without augmentation), and liposuction would fit your needs then let’s do it.

Procedures iNcluded in Mommy Makeover

Breast lift

The breasts undergo some serious changes during pregnancy, expanding due to weight gain and to accommodate your milk supply, and then deflating again once you lose weight and stop nursing. This stretching of the skin and supportive tissues can leave you with loss of volume, sagging and excess skin. Depending upon the amount of sagging, the nipples may need to be reduced or repositioned (areola reduction).

Breast augmentation

Breastfeeding tends to decrease breast volume. Women who want to return volume, particularly to the upper part of the breasts, or who simply would like larger breasts, can opt to have a breast augmentation.  Breast augmentation surgery uses silicone or saline implants, or in some cases natural fat transfer, to restore volume in the breasts, making them larger. This is usually performed in conjunction with a lift, which tightens the skin across and surrounding the breasts so that they sit higher, look perkier, appear more youthful and produce more cleavage for an improved breast shape.

Liposuction

You will almost certainly be left with stubborn pockets of fat that don’t seem to shift no matter what you eat or how much you exercise. These are incredibly frustrating, particularly when they tend to fall in certain areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs and buttock. Liposuction is the only guaranteed way of removing these, sucking out the excess fat and helping you to achieve a smoother, more toned body. Not all liposuction techniques are the same. Depending on the area being treated, ultrasonic liposuction and power assisted liposuction will be performed to get an optimal result. High definition liposuction techniques are utilized to give you the smallest shape possible. Most likely, a body better than you ever imagined.

Tummy Tuck

Also known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck is the most commonly requested of all cosmetic surgeries after childbirth. This is because, unsurprisingly, the abdomen undergoes the most dramatic change of all, swelling and stretching far beyond normal to accommodate your growing baby. While you may find that you can lose weight off your stomach fairly quickly after pregnancy, sagging skin and loss of tone are common issues, as well as stretchmarks. Furthermore, the stretch of the abdominal muscles never return to their original tightness even with intense exercise. In some cases, belly button hernias develop and deform it.

Tummy tuck surgery focuses on tightening the underlying abdominal muscles as well as the skin that covers your midsection. After being pulled tight, any excess is removed, and you will find that your abdomen looks much flatter and smoother with a more defined shape. Your entire midsection can be carefully sculpted allowing you to fit into your favorite bikini again.

Femtouch Vaginal Rejuvenation

Post childbirth many women begin to notice urinary incontinence or leakage, vaginal laxity, vaginal dryness, and symptoms which may lead to discomfort during sex.  Laser vaginal rejuvenation with Femtouch, promotes remodeling of the vaginal mucosa by stimulating collagen and elastin.  This non surgical laser treatment increases blood flow, creates new tissue, tightens the vagina and helps restore vaginal health.

How long do I have to wait to have a mommy makeover?

A mother who has seen her body changed by pregnancy and childbirth can be frustrated and seek a mommy makeover, but you need to have some patience. You’ll need to wait at least six months after having your baby and have finished breastfeeding for at least three months. This will allow your abdominal muscles to have healed and your breasts to return to their normal, natural size.

How long does mommy makeover surgery take?

If you’re having a full tummy tuck, a breast lift with augmentation, and liposuction, these procedures with Dr. Albert can take about three to six hours. Variations can shorten or lengthen the surgery time.

What kind of results can I expect from a mommy makeover?

You can expect to erase the changes in your body caused by the localized weight gain and loss, followed by breastfeeding. The tummy tuck will remove the stomach pooch that is new and despised. It will also bring separated stomach muscles back to the center, where they are re-attached. This is important because if your stomach muscles have become separated by the localized weight gain there isn’t any way to bring them back to the center, short of surgery. Your breasts will be free of their sagging skin and flattened appearance. If you have a lift alone, they will be back to a higher position on your chest. If you opt to add augmentation, you’ll regain volume that you lost with breastfeeding. Or, you could choose to add more volume and size than you had previously to gain a shapelier figure.

Mommy Makeover Recovery

Recovery after a mommy makeover will vary depending upon how many procedures were performed.  You will have had surgery on at least two areas of your body, along with liposuction on other areas.  Of the mommy makeover procedures, the tummy tuck has the most involved recovery because of the tightening of the abdominal rectus muscles that have become separated.

During the first few weeks after surgery you will need to plan on having help with your household chores and taking care of the kids.  You will not be able to do any heavy lifting or exercise.  We will have you in compression garments for your tummy tuck and liposuction.  You will wear a support bra with no underwire for a few weeks to months depending upon your healing.  You’ll be able to begin a light level of activity after one to two weeks, and restrictions on strenuous activity will be lifted after 6 – 8 weeks.  You will notice the majority of your swelling begin to decrease within the first three to six weeks after surgery, but can take six months to a year before you are completely healed.

Are there risks of mommy makevoer surgery?

These are surgeries, so they include the usual risks: bleeding, possible infection, reaction to anesthesia, slow healing, capsular contracture, asymmetry, implant rupture, and the like.  It is important to choose a board certified plastic surgeon who is properly trained in treating potential risks.

All in all, a mommy makeover with Dr. Albert is a very satisfying procedure.
